Scotty Lago is the instigator of today’s little foray into the land of Olympic stupidity. Or rather I should say it’s the reaction to some pictures of him that is the topic.
Long story short, he got some pictures taken of him fooling around at a club with an attractive young woman. Oooo, alert the press, a 22 year old snowboarder was having fun after winning a bronze medal at the Olympics!
My God! What the golly gee willikers is that young lady doing to him?!
Oh wow, she’s got his medal in her teeth, and has her mouth close to his fly. Lord, my retinas have been scarred for life!
What ever is the world coming to when 22 year old athletes don’t act like saints just because they are at the Olympics?!
This generation is so, so, soooo, DEGENERATE!

Let’s get something straight here, the athletes haven’t changed, the ability to record them has. Not that long ago a bouncer could keep the press out of the clubs because they had to lug around big bulky cameras. Now anyone with a cellphone can snap shots of anyone, doing anything, anywhere.
I mean, we are talking about people that make a living playing games, and doing things most people leave behind in high school, except maybe as a hobby. They are not heroes. I’m kinda tired of the way people put athletes up on pedestals. What have they ever really done to deserve the praise they get, or the ridicule for that matter?
Instead of focusing on a career in the “long view” they choose to work their asses’ off training for fame and fortune early in life, they hope.
Now I am not trying to take away their hard work. Nor their dedication. I’m sure before events the top competitors are the picture of “good behavior”, but why do so many people seem to think they should be like that all the time?
They are still human. Scotty Lago was done at the Olympics. He competed and won a Medal, he deserved to have his celebration. What did he get? Embarrassed by some dick wad with a camera, and an early trip back home as his way of apologizing for something he shouldn’t need to apologize for.
Some people even think he should have is medal taken away.
